FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Research Peptides

What are research peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids (usually 2–50 amino acids) linked together by peptide bonds. Unlike proteins, which contain hundreds to thousands of amino acids, peptides are smaller molecules—and it is precisely this compactness that makes them exceptionally interesting for scientific research.

Research peptides are synthetically produced compounds that mimic or modify biologically active peptides naturally occurring in the human or animal body. They enable scientists to study biological processes at the cellular and molecular levels—from tissue regeneration and metabolism regulation, through hormone secretion, to neuroprotection.

The research is conducted in the form of preclinical in vitro studies (test-tube experiments, cell cultures) and in vivo studies (experiments using animal models). These compounds are not drugs and are not intended for human use.

Lyophilization (freeze-drying) is a process in which a peptide solution is first frozen and then the water is removed by sublimation—the transformation of ice directly into vapor, without passing through the liquid state. The result is a dry, porous powder with a long shelf life.

Why are research peptides freeze-dried?

Advantage

Explanation

Stability

Freeze-dried peptides have a shelf life of 24 months or more at −20 °C

Purity

No water = no risk of microbial growth during storage

Accuracy

The powder is easier to measure and reconstitute to the exact concentration

Transportation

Stable during transport without a cold chain (for short periods)

The lyophilized form is the industry standard for the highest-quality research peptides.

Proper storage is key to maintaining the purity and activity of the peptide.

Before reconstitution (powder):
- Store at −20 °C (freezer) — ideal for long-term storage (12–24 months)
- Alternatively: 2–8 °C (refrigerator) for shorter periods (up to 3 months)
- Protect from direct light, moisture, and repeated thawing
- Do not open the vial until immediately before use

After reconstitution (solution):
- Store at 2–8 °C (refrigerator)
- Use within 28–30 days (when using bacteriostatic water)
- When using sterile water, use immediately or within 24 hours
- Protect from light—peptides may degrade when exposed to UV radiation

Tip: Always let the vial warm to room temperature before opening it to prevent condensation from forming inside.

Reconstitution is the process of dissolving a lyophilized peptide in a suitable solvent. To accurately calculate the amount of water and the resulting concentration, use our Dosage Calculator.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Gather the following: sterile or bacteriostatic water, a vial of peptide, and a syringe
  2. Temperature: Allow the peptide vial to warm to room temperature (15–30 minutes)
  3. Administering water: Draw the calculated amount of water into a syringe. Insert the needle through the septum and slowly administer the water along the wall of the vial —do not inject directly onto the powder
  4. Dissolution: Gently swirl the vial — DO NOT SHAKE! Vigorous mixing can damage the molecular structure of the peptide
  5. Check: Wait until the powder has completely dissolved—the solution should be clear
  6. Storage: After reconstitution, store at 2–8 °C

Both are suitable for peptide reconstitution, but they differ in composition and shelf life after opening.

Property

Sterile Water (WFI)

Bacteriostatic water

Ingredients

Pure water, no preservatives

Water + 0.9% benzyl alcohol

Usage

Disposable

Multi-dose (up to 28 days)

Use immediately

Store at 2–8 °C; use within 28 days

Suitable for

Small quantities / one-time research

Long-term research protocols

Microbial Protection

None after opening

0.9% benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth

Recommendation: For most research peptides, bacteriostatic water is the preferred choice —it extends the stability of the prepared solution and reduces the risk of contamination in multi-dose research protocols. Both are available in the Laboratory Supplies section.

The stability of the reconstituted peptide depends on the solvent used and the storage conditions:

Terms and Conditions

Stability

Bacteriostatic water + refrigerator (2–8 °C)

28–30 days

Sterile water + refrigerator (2–8 °C)

24–72 hours

Any solvent + room temperature

At most a few hours (not recommended)

Freezing the solution (−20 °C)

Possible— do not defrost repeatedly —deterioration

Practical recommendations:

  • Always use bacteriostatic water for reuse
  • Label the vial with the date of reconstitution
  • Store light-sensitive peptides (e.g., Melanotan-2) wrapped in aluminum foil
  • If you have any doubts about stability, proceed with a new reconstitution.

Peptide purity is expressed as the percentage of the active compound (target peptide) in the total mass of the sample. The remainder may consist of synthesis byproducts, residual reagents, or impurities.

Why is a purity of ≥98% important?

  • Research reproducibility: Contaminants can affect experimental results, making it difficult to reproduce the results and compare them with other studies
  • Data Quality: Research results are valid only if the tested substance corresponds to the declared compound
  • Safety during handling: Lower purity = potentially unknown contaminants in the laboratory

How do we verify purity?

Every batch of peptides at jacked.sk is verified using HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography), supplemented as needed by mass spectrometry (MS) to confirm the molecule’s identity. The results are documented in a Certificate of Analysis (COA), which is available for each product.

Since the peptides available on jacked.sk are intended exclusively for preclinical research (in vitro and in vivo in animal models), we are unable to provide information on side effects associated with human use—nor is such use the purpose of our sales.

From the scientific literature (preclinical research):

Side effect profiles vary significantly depending on the specific compound:

  • GH-releasing peptides (GHRP-2, Ipamorelin): Effects on cortisol, prolactin, and appetite levels observed in animal studies
  • GLP-1/GIP agonists (tirzepatide, retatrutide): Gastrointestinal reactions observed in clinical studies (nausea, decreased appetite)
  • Melanocortin peptides (Melanotan-2, PT-141): Studies have examined their effects on pigmentation, blood pressure, and nausea
  • Regenerative peptides (BPC-157, TB-500): In preclinical studies, they have demonstrated a favorable safety profile in animal models

Important differences compared to steroids:

Research peptides are not steroids. Steroids (e.g., testosterone, cortisol) are lipid molecules derived from cholesterol—they function on a completely different principle than peptides. Peptides are amino acid chains without a steroid structure.

Some peptides (e.g., Ipamorelin, GHRP-2) have been shown in research to stimulate growth hormone secretion, but they are neither growth hormone nor steroids themselves.

The choice depends on the area of research you are focusing on. At jacked.sk, we offer peptides categorized into 7 research areas:
